Kids and Family Coordinator Position

Job Description

Job Overview:  

The Children’s Ministry Coordinator is responsible for the development, promotion, and implementation of a comprehensive program of Christian care and discipleship (Kindergarten through 5th grade) to ensure a smoothly operating, safe and effective ministry.  The Children’s Ministry Coordinator is to fulfill the Great Commission and the Great Commandment through the mission of the local church.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the children’s ministry.
  • Plan, organize, and direct all weekly children’s programs including, but not limited to, Sunday School, Sunday Worship Services, and Wednesday evening activities.
  • Plan, organize, and direct all children’s special events, including but not limited to, Vacation Bible School, Fall Festival, Crosstimbers Camp, Summer activities, Teacher’s Banquet, and parents’ night out.
  • Responsible for building and organizing a team of volunteers by interviewing and screening church members before placing them in ministry.  Observe, evaluate, and affirm leaders, teachers and leaders to help them understand their strengths and to encourage them in areas where improvement is possible.
  • Organize classrooms and make sure that they are properly cleaned, maintained and supplied.
  • Recommend age-appropriate and Gospel-centered curriculum.
  • Ensure a safe environment for all children, promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
  • Attend Staff Meetings as often as practical.

 

Supervisory Requirements: 

  • Recruit and supervise volunteers for the Children’s Ministry.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive issues regarding the church and/or its members.
  • Willingness to counsel and pray with children dealing with spiritual questions and decisions.
  • Possess at least a basic knowledge of the Bible and the doctrine of the Southern Baptist Denomination as set forth in the Baptist Faith and Message.
  • Express a desire and ability to develop a comprehensive and effective outreach program and activities for children.
  • Possess ability to use, or willingness to learn, computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, Email (Outlook)).
  • Be able to effectively communicate with staff, adults, teachers, congregation.
  • Possess an ability to use printers/copiers, calculators, laminators, fax machines.
  • Exhibit desire to love and nurture children.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending.
  • Physically able to meet the challenges of elementary school-age children.

 

Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

  • Professing believer in Jesus Christ.
  • Professing agreement with the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message statement as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention on June 14, 2000.
  • Member of First Baptist Nicoma Park within 30 days of hire.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Previous experience in child/day care or a related field preferred.
  • Satisfactory pre-employment background check.
